A move from London to Folkestonegave me the opportunity to leave my graphic design career behind and explore the creative possibilities of working with paint, clay and beachcombed materials sourced on daily walks by the sea.
My paintings capture the experience of being by the coast, recalling a moment in a storm, an unusual cloud formation, or sunlight through billowing clouds making the horizon disappear.
Texture is incorporated into my ceramics by pressing coastal finds of seaweed, driftwood and fossils, as well as woodblock type, into clay.
Boat sculptures built with beachcombed wood and metal are suggestive of escape.
